Dear Customers,
We are writing to inform you of the entry into force of
Regulation (EU) 2023/956, effective as of January 1, 2026, which establishes the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism or
CBAM.
The CBAM is an environmental tariff designed by the European Union to balance carbon pricing between products manufactured within the EU and those imported from other countries.
Its primary objective is to prevent "carbon leakage." This occurs when European companies, seeking to avoid the high costs of local environmental regulations, move their production to countries with laxer climate laws, or when imported products—which are cheaper because they do not pay for their emissions—displace European goods.
For this reason, since the beginning of this year, imports of raw materials such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, as well as their derivatives (screws, fasteners, etc.), have seen a substantial increase in cost.
At Lusan, we are compelled to review our prices to account for the rise in replacement costs, while striving to minimize the impact on our customers' supply chain.
For any additional information, please feel free to contact our
sales department.
Best regards,
Lusan Fijaciones y Anclajes
